Putridus The Ancient, Level 80 Rare Spawn, Icecrown

Image
Putridus The Ancient, Level 80 Rare Spawn, Icecrown, finally got him! I've seen him walking around Icecrown a few times, but other groups always downed him first. After calling for help on /1 we soon had a full group, one surprising thing about this rare spawn is how quickly he moves, on my 60% flying mount I could hardly keep up, luckily all the other members of the group had epic flying and soon caught up with him. By the time I caught up the fight was almost over. A very easy fight, even with the many adds that we picked up. I had been following him for quite a while before the group was assembled to fight him. He must spawn on the western side of Icecrown, runs up to the north, turns right, goes through the gate and turns right again and heads south towards Crystalsong Forest. We caught up with him and killed him in the broken front, I'm not sure if he would have despawned at the Glacier enterance to Crystalsong or if he turns around and retraces his steps.

Voidhunter Yar, Level 68 Rare Spawn, Spirit Fields, Nagrand. Got Him Again!

Image
In between grinding for Mag'har rep, I've been helping the lowbies get the group quests done in Nagrand. We spotted Voidhunter Yar whilst circling around the giant diamond looking for Durn the Hungerer, and again Yar was on the southern side of the crystal just patrolling around. Since the realease of Lich King, every time I've looked for Voidhunter Yar he has been there. I know some of you are trying to figure out spawn times etc. but I am afraid I have no clue what triggers this mob to spawn or whether it is just on a timer. Loot: A very nice blue leather spell belt [Voidhide Cord of the Hierophant] level 66.

Two Rare spawns From Feralas, Arash-ethis and Snarler

Image
Feralas, seems like forever since I visited the place but here are two rare spawns I found whilst levelling my Human and Bloodelf Paladins. Arash-ethis, level 49, not sure if this one was an elite or not, nor did I get the chance to kill it, as soon as I approached it after snapping this shot, it flew directly upwards then vanished. Would love more info on this one if any of you are lucky enough to find it. The other rare spawn I found in Feralas was Snarler, a level 42 non elite, dropped a green, some meat and some junk. This was way back when I was levelling my Bloodelf Paladin. I'll be taking my Human Paladin back to feralas soon to run Dire Maul and do the Paladin book hand in quest, while I'm there i'll check around for rare spawns as feralas does seem to be a great place for them.

Grocklar, Level 74 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn, Grizzly Hills

Image
Grocklar, Level 74 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn, Grizzly Hills. This was the first rare spawn I ever saw in Northrend, I had just crossed the border from Dragonblight into Grizzly Hills and I saw him moving through the woodland to my right. You'd think a Storm Giant would be pretty easy to get a picture of, they aren't exactly hard to see, but the screen shot below was the best picture I managed to get of it as it ran east, deeper into Grizzly Hills. I didn't even attempt to fight this one on my level 73 Druid, still mostly wearing level 70 welfare epics. I have been back and looked for him a number of times, but am yet to see it again.

Zul'Drak Sentinel, Level 77 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn

Image
Zul'Drak Sentinel, Level 77 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn in Zul'Drak. My first kill on a Northrend rare spawn and I still can't quite believe I got this one! When I spotted him he was just yards away from the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak, tried to solo him at first and died horribly, while I was corpse running back to the Argent Stand I put a call out on /1 for help and very quickly got a group together. Despite the fact that there were loads of players around the flight point and doing quests etc. around the Argent Stand, the rare spawn was still there when I got back to my body. He was patrolling from the Argent Stand down the road to towards the Altar of Sseratus. Loot: Dropped a very nice pair of blue plate legs, a blue quality item called [Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel] which contained gold and some other items. My screen shots folder now holds about a thousand images and haven't been able to find the loot screenie for this kill, but I'll po

Nerubian Overseer, Level 60 Elite Rare Spawn, Terroweb Tunnel, Eastern Plaguelands

Image
Nerubian Overseer, Level 60 Elite Rare Spawn, Terroweb Tunnel, Eastern Plaguelands. This rare spawn patrols up and down the Terrorweb Tunnel and also ventures into the town at the eastern entrance of the tunnel. Killing this mob nets you 10 Argent dawn rep (I'm sure it used to give 50, but maybe it still does if you kill it at a lower level) and a few [Crypt Fiend Parts] for hand ins at Light's Hope Chapel. Frequently drops grey vendor trash and occasional greens. Like Deathspeaker Selendre, because of the low populations on the older servers, this particular rare spawn will be there pretty much 100% time. Nobody goes through Terrorweb anymore.

Ranger Lord Hawkspear, Level 60 Rare Spawn, Quel'Lithien Lodge, Eastern Plaguelands

Image
Here are a couple of other rare spawns from the Eastern Plaguelands: Ranger Lord Hawkspear, Level 60 Rare Spawn, Quel'Lithien Lodge, Eastern Plaguelands. You have to be Horde to kill this guy because he is a High Elf and is, therefore, friendly to alliance players (just like Duggan Wildhammer). Loot: Killed this guy many times but can't find any of the loot screen shots I took. I'm sure he always dropped greens and no blues though. Deathspeaker Selendre, level 56 rare spawn, a member of the cult of the damned, so killable by both Horde and Alliance, can frequently be found in the Noxious Glade. Pretty much the only people who go up there these days are people grinding Thorium, so not only will you find this particular rare spawn up there almost 100% of the time but you will usually find a rich thorium vein up there too, grinding thorium in the Eastern Plaguelands is a great way to make money on my server, stacks of Thorium Ore are currently se

Duggan Wildhammer, Level 55 Rare Spawn, Eastern Plaguelands

Image
Even now, months after the release of Wrath of the Lich King and years after the release of The Burning Crusade, the Plaguelands are still my favourite zones in the game. Pretty much all of my favourite quest lines happen here. Tirion Fordring, Nathanos Blightcaller, Uther, The Light Bringer - epic story lines all. Does anybody out there know if High General Abbendis is still a level 59 elite rares spawn at Tyr's Hand, or has she been removed from the eastern Plaguelands now she can be found in New Hearthglen, Dragonblight? I know Tirion Fordring is still there, so I assume she can still be found at one of her spawn points in the crusader stronghold. She is well worth grinding for because she drops some pretty good blue items and some high number cards for some of the Darkmoon sets. Duggan Wildhammer, Level 55 Rare Spawn, Eastern Plaguelands. One of the famous Wildhammer clan, but not sure what his story is, he can be found on the southern border of the Eastern Plaguelands up beh

Voidhunter Yar, Level 68 Rare Spawn, Spirit Fields, Nagrand

Image
Voidhunter Yar, Level 68 Rare Spawn, Spirit Fields, Nagrind Nagrand This one was a tough fight for a level 65 paladin, not only was he bugged when I first started to fight him, which meant he evaded my initial spells and melee hits, but I also managed to pick up a couple of adds. I found him in the Spirit Fields, on the southern edge of the giant crystal. This kill got my Human Paladin the [Medium Rare] achievement. Nagrand is now a pretty great place to level, a fair chunk of the grind was removed a few patches ago, so the requirements for the early Nesingwary quests have been reduced from 20 kills to 12. And although I don't have any numbers to back it up, a lot of the other quests seemed a lot quicker and easier (like the ogre grind quests etc.). Loot: Got a very nice feral druid/rogue blue drop from this guy, [Voidhide Cord of the Bandit]

Stratholme and Scholomance, Piccolo of the Flaming Fire, Hearthsinger Forresten

Image
After finishing Blackrock Depths I headed for Stratholme and then Scholomance, I was still grinding for Argent Dawn rep and finally hit exalted today. Now a great many of the mobs in both instances continue to grant rep right up to level 80 the grind really has speeded up, specially for any human charactors. The highest rep pay off is Baron Rivendare in Stratholme who gets you a total of 440 Argent Dawn rep (with the Human Diplomacy racial, 400 for all other races), you get 110 rep for the kill and another 330 if Rivendare's Argent dawn hostage survives. There is also a very slim chance that Baron Rivendares mount will drop. So many people have the Baron's horse now it isn't funny, I have grinded for it on three different characters and have never seen it drop once, yet a great many people seem to get it on their first Rivendare kill. The mini bosses in both Stratholme and Scholomance give 55 rep each (50 for all non human races). I am starting to suspect that

Warder Stilgiss, Level 54 Elite Rare Spawn, Blackrock Depths

Image
Took my newly level 80 Human Paladin for a full run through Blackrock Depths to complete the obvious quests, got the key and attuned to Molten Core, and of course, to get the achievement. This was a really nice break and change of pace from the seemingly never ending Icecrown, Hodir and Argent Tournament daily quests. Made a lot of gold from vendoring the greens and blues, not to mention the stacks of free Runecloth for the rep hand ins. On todays run I found two rare spawns standing right next to each other - Warder Stilgiss a level 54 Elite Rare Spawn, found in the same room as Verek (The Black Vault, Blackrock Depths). See the screen shots below for loot.

Verek, Level 53 Elite Rare Spawn Demon Dog, Blackrock Depths

Image
Verek, Level 53 Elite Rare Spawn Demon Dog, another rare spawn in the ever impressive Blackrock Depths. He can be found in the bank vault room where you get the Heart of the mountain. There is at least one other elite that aggros when you pull this mob, but most here are non-elite.

Pyromancer Loregrain, Level 52 Elite Rare Spawn, Blackrock Depths

Image
Pyromancer Loregraina level 52 Elite Rare Spawn in Blackrock Depths. He can usually be found in front of the statue where you put the Mallet to get the key to all the doors in the instance. He usually has two other mobs with him that aggro when he does (can't remember if the are elites or not off the top of my head, a good excuse to go back on my new paladin). Blackrock Depths never fails to impress me, the size of the place alone is incredible. It is a true gem of Warcraft's "old world", a real shame that so few people go there now. Even at level 80 it takes a few hours to run the whole thing, which is probably what puts a lot of people off. Loot: Some very nice drops to be had from this guy, including the formula for the Fiery Weapon Enchant and lots of blues.

Stonespine, Level 60 Elite Rare Spawn, Stratholme

Image
Stonespine, a level 60 Elite Rare Spawn Gargoyle in Stratholme. These Gargoyles are a massive pain, they love to chain aggro everything nearby, fear and silence you, but at least there a rare one to keep things interesting. Loot: Gargoyle Shredder Talons and various grey quality pieces of stone, probably drops other blues too.

Skul, Level 58 Elite Rare Spawn, Stratholme

Image
Skul is Level 58 elite rare spawn that can be found in Stratholme, like Hearthsinger Forresten, he seems to have quite a few different spawn points. He doesn't drop anything as awesome as the Piccolo of the Flaming Fire , but he does drop a lot of different blues and greens.

Hearthsinger Forresten, Level 57 Elite, Stratholme

Image
Hearthsinger Forresten, a neutral Level 57 Elite rare spawn to be found in Stratholme, my favourite instance in the whole of World of Warcraft. Hearthsinger Forresten has at least two spawn points that I know of and can actually be very hard to see so be sure to have a good hunt around if you don't find him at his usual spot. This is the guy that drops the Piccolo of the Flaming Fire (the trinket that makes everybody near you dance) which has all kinds of hilarious/anoying uses. Whenever I get a character up to a high enough level to solo Stratholme comfortably, this is one of the many things I go in there to get. The horde seems to have far better quests for Stratholme than the Alliance do, which is a shame as I just got my Human Paladin to level 80 and have started the grind for Argent Dawn rep and the Baron Rivendare's Deathcharger Mount. Apart from the Icecrown daily quests, Stratholme is my favourite place to grind for gold, (not to mention the tons of Runecloth for re

Goraluk Anvilcrack, Level 61 Elite Rare Spawn, Upper Blackrock Spire

Image
Goraluk Anvilcrack, Blackhand Legion Armorsmith , a level 61 Elite Rare Spawn to be found in Upper Blackrock Spire. Drops some very nice blue items, including Bottom Half of Advanced Armorsmithing: Volume I . Even with my mediocre gear, at level 80 these guys are very easy, the only problem is that they love to run off and aggro other packs, very easy for my paladin to deal with, but it can slow you down a lot. Shortly after I snapped this I went on to solo the false Warchief Rend Blackhand, a ?? level raid boss. Dropped some blues but no epics. Loot: Forgot to snapshot the loot this guy drops, a good excuse to go back. The old world instances and raids are so much fun at level 80!

Geolord Mottle, Level 9 Rare Spawn, Durotar

Image
Geolord Mottle, a Level 9 Rare Spawn that can be found at the Razormane Grounds in Durotar. Not sure if this one has many different spawn points. Loot: 14 Copper, and a Pioneer's Cloak

Eldinarcus, Level 11 Rare Spawn, Eversong Woods

Image
Eldinarcus, a Level 11 rare spawn that can be found in Duskwither Grounds, near Duskwither spire, in Eversong Woods. I have seen him roaming around the area pretty much every time I have ever been to Duskwither Spire. Looks like a larger than average voidwalker. Loot: 12 Copper and Disciple's Boots.

Dreadscorn, Level 57 Rare Spawn, Blasted Lands

Image
Dreadscorn, a Level 57 orc to be found in the Blasted Lands, patrolling up and down the path where all the cultists are on the extreme western side of the map. May have other spawn points. Loot: 7 Silver, 31 Copper, Councillor's Circlet of the Owl

Dalaran Spellscribe, Level 21 Rare Spawn, Ambermill, Silverpine Forest

Image
A Dalaran Spellscribe, a Level 21 rare spawn to be found in Ambermill, Silverpine Forest. I found this particular one in the town hall building. Not sure if there other spawn points for this mob. I found a lot of the rare spawns whilst grinding low level quests for reputation. Amazing to see how deserted Azeroth, and even Outland, are now that Wrath of the Lich King is here. Loot: 13 copper, Wool cloth and Jewel-encrusted sash.

Lumbering Horror, Level 71, Rise of the Defiler, The Blasted Lands
