Grocklar, Level 74 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn, Grizzly Hills

Image
At long last, a Grocklar kill! Soloed him on my level 74 warlock with the Voidwalker tanking. He dropped the blue quality [Rock-Giant's Pinky Cover of the Necromancer] . He also dropped the usual [Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel] , which, oddly enough, is no longer a blue item. The bag contained 24g 98s, 20x frostweave cloth and 3x Crystalized Fire. He was almost exactly where I saw him last time - the Dragonblight/Grizzly Hills border, on the Grizzly Hills side of the river walking northwards through the woods.

High Thane Jorfus, Level 80 Elite Rare Spawn, Icecrown, Northrend

Image
Spotted this corpse while on route to the Argent Tournament. I didn't get him, so I can't post any loot shots or anything, I'll be keeping an eye out for him though. Amazing how close he is to the tournament grounds, not to mention that he is right below the flight paths from Dalaran to the tournament.  With the huge amount of traffic around this area, High Thane Jorfus will be a tough one to get! Doomsayer Jurim & Ever-Core The Punisher, Outland Rare Spawns

Image
Now that everyone is fighting the Lich King's undead army in Northrend, Outland and Azerothian rare spawns are so much easier to find. I am currently levelling a Blood Elf Warlock so I have been grinding quests through a largely deserted Outland. The first rare spawn I managed to get was Doomsayer Jurim, he is a level 64 non-elite but was still a pretty tough fight. He patrols the roads around Terrokar Forest, even venturing right up to Shattrath. He dropped money, water, cloth and the blue quality [Grim Slippers of the Whale] , a pretty nice pair of boots for clothies. The second rare spawn was Ever-Core The Punisher, a level 68 non-elite that patrols the roads around Manaforge Ultris in Netherstorm. Like Doomsayer Jurim, despite being non-elite, is still a tougher than average fight. He dropped the blue quality [Arcane Loop of Agility] and some other junk.

Old Crystalbark, Level 71 Elite Rare Spawn, Coldarra, Borean Tundra

Image
Whilst quietly questing away to my hearts content in Coldarra, levelling my new human death knight, I suddenly spotted this guy strolling by: I couldn't believe my eyes, I wasn't even there looking for the rare spawns. This was a new one on me, Old Crystalbark, a Level 71 Elite Rare Spawn. I stopped and thought for a second, could a level 70 blood spec death knight down a Level 71 Elite? Yep, a death knight certainly can take a 71 elite, and without too much trouble either, no health pots used in this fight. Loot: An awesome pair of blue quality plate gloves [Crystalbark's Toenail of the Soldier] , and, of course, the blue quality [ Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel ] which contained 20 gold, a full stack of frostweave cloth and a couple of Crystalized life. And this kill got me the Northern Exposure achievement for my new death knight. Well worth going looking for this guy if you are a class that can solo him, those gloves will be good for a whol...

Putridus The Ancient, Level 80 Rare Spawn, Icecrown

Image
Putridus The Ancient, Level 80 Rare Spawn, Icecrown, finally got him! I've seen him walking around Icecrown a few times, but other groups always downed him first. After calling for help on /1 we soon had a full group, one surprising thing about this rare spawn is how quickly he moves, on my 60% flying mount I could hardly keep up, luckily all the other members of the group had epic flying and soon caught up with him. By the time I caught up the fight was almost over. A very easy fight, even with the many adds that we picked up. I had been following him for quite a while before the group was assembled to fight him. He must spawn on the western side of Icecrown, runs up to the north, turns right, goes through the gate and turns right again and heads south towards Crystalsong Forest. We caught up with him and killed him in the broken front, I'm not sure if he would have despawned at the Glacier enterance to Crystalsong or if he turns around and retraces his steps. ...

Voidhunter Yar, Level 68 Rare Spawn, Spirit Fields, Nagrand. Got Him Again!

Image
In between grinding for Mag'har rep, I've been helping the lowbies get the group quests done in Nagrand. We spotted Voidhunter Yar whilst circling around the giant diamond looking for Durn the Hungerer, and again Yar was on the southern side of the crystal just patrolling around. Since the realease of Lich King, every time I've looked for Voidhunter Yar he has been there. I know some of you are trying to figure out spawn times etc. but I am afraid I have no clue what triggers this mob to spawn or whether it is just on a timer. Loot: A very nice blue leather spell belt [Voidhide Cord of the Hierophant] level 66.

Two Rare spawns From Feralas, Arash-ethis and Snarler

Image
Feralas, seems like forever since I visited the place but here are two rare spawns I found whilst levelling my Human and Bloodelf Paladins. Arash-ethis, level 49, not sure if this one was an elite or not, nor did I get the chance to kill it, as soon as I approached it after snapping this shot, it flew directly upwards then vanished. Would love more info on this one if any of you are lucky enough to find it. The other rare spawn I found in Feralas was Snarler, a level 42 non elite, dropped a green, some meat and some junk. This was way back when I was levelling my Bloodelf Paladin. I'll be taking my Human Paladin back to feralas soon to run Dire Maul and do the Paladin book hand in quest, while I'm there i'll check around for rare spawns as feralas does seem to be a great place for them.

Grocklar, Level 74 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn, Grizzly Hills

Image
Grocklar, Level 74 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn, Grizzly Hills. This was the first rare spawn I ever saw in Northrend, I had just crossed the border from Dragonblight into Grizzly Hills and I saw him moving through the woodland to my right. You'd think a Storm Giant would be pretty easy to get a picture of, they aren't exactly hard to see, but the screen shot below was the best picture I managed to get of it as it ran east, deeper into Grizzly Hills. I didn't even attempt to fight this one on my level 73 Druid, still mostly wearing level 70 welfare epics. I have been back and looked for him a number of times, but am yet to see it again.

Zul'Drak Sentinel, Level 77 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn

Image
Zul'Drak Sentinel, Level 77 Elite Northrend Rare Spawn in Zul'Drak. My first kill on a Northrend rare spawn and I still can't quite believe I got this one! When I spotted him he was just yards away from the Argent Stand in Zul'Drak, tried to solo him at first and died horribly, while I was corpse running back to the Argent Stand I put a call out on /1 for help and very quickly got a group together. Despite the fact that there were loads of players around the flight point and doing quests etc. around the Argent Stand, the rare spawn was still there when I got back to my body. He was patrolling from the Argent Stand down the road to towards the Altar of Sseratus. Loot: Dropped a very nice pair of blue plate legs, a blue quality item called [Abandoned Adventurer's Satchel] which contained gold and some other items. My screen shots folder now holds about a thousand images and haven't been able to find the loot screenie for this kill, but I'll po...

Nerubian Overseer, Level 60 Elite Rare Spawn, Terroweb Tunnel, Eastern Plaguelands

Image
Nerubian Overseer, Level 60 Elite Rare Spawn, Terroweb Tunnel, Eastern Plaguelands. This rare spawn patrols up and down the Terrorweb Tunnel and also ventures into the town at the eastern entrance of the tunnel. Killing this mob nets you 10 Argent dawn rep (I'm sure it used to give 50, but maybe it still does if you kill it at a lower level) and a few [Crypt Fiend Parts] for hand ins at Light's Hope Chapel. Frequently drops grey vendor trash and occasional greens. Like Deathspeaker Selendre, because of the low populations on the older servers, this particular rare spawn will be there pretty much 100% time. Nobody goes through Terrorweb anymore.
